Fistula

fistula surgery

What is Fistula?

A fistula is an anomalous channel or connection between two organs or arteries that do not normally join. They can appear everywhere, including between the intestine and the epidermis, the vaginal canal, and the rectum, and other areas. The anus is one of the most common sites for a fistula.Several fluid-producing glands are located just within your anus. They might get clogged or obstructed at any time. The resulting accumulation of microbes and bacteria can result in a swollen pocket of infected tissue and fluids, which is referred to as an abscess by most medical professionals. If the abscess isn't treated, it starts to spread, and eventually finds its way to the exterior, punching a hole in the skin around your anus to allow the muck within to drain. The fistula forms the passageway between the gland and the orifice.

Symptoms

Although fistula during its development doesn’t show any obvious symptoms, some common ones include:

  • Pain, redness, and/or swelling around the anal region

  • Bleeding during bowel movements or urination

  • A foul-smelling liquid oozing from a hole near your anus

  • Fever, chills, and an overall sense of exhaustion

If you are experiencing any of the aforementioned, call the best fistula surgeon in Gurugram immediately.

Treatment

Doctors often follow a multi-step procedure for an accurate diagnosis, which in most cases kicks off with a brief interview about the patient’s medical history, followed by a physical exam, with the main aim of locating the bleeding or oozing fluid. In case the fistula isn’t easy to spot or further clarity is required for an accurate diagnosis, they may order X-Rays and CT Scans of specific areas.
